As Boston celebrates National LGBT History Month this June, read with pride at the bibliothèque! Swing by to browse our displays and share your favorite read at this month's bouillon de lecture on June 19, celebrating LGBT stories and writers en français. Read on for some of our favorites!

Books for Kids and Teens

The library has added many great LGBT books for kids and teens since last June. Gay dads, gay moms, first crushes, boy bears in dresses and princesses in love - you can find them all here!

Books for Adults

Did you know that Négar Djavadi's debut novel, Désorientales, won the Lambda Literary Prize in 2019 for its English translation? Or that Marguerite Yourcenar, first woman elected to the Académie française, lived with her partner Grace for more than 40 years? You can explore more of the rich history of French and Francophone LGBT people in our books and bande dessinées.

Pride Films

Some of the best French films of recent decades are about gender and orientation, from Cannes-winning shocker La vie d’Adèle to classic comedy La cage aux folles. For a sweet summer romance, try La belle saison. If you’re curious about the history of gay activism, check out 120 battements par minute, set in France in the 1990s.
