Looking to cozy up at home with a new movie (or two)? Here's a sneak peek at some of the titles ready to hit the shelves at our Library:

Ma Loute / Slack Bay

Bruno Dumont, 2016
Reserve it!

A period piece with an all-star cast, Ma Loute can perhaps best be characterized as zany, given the over-the-top trailer that you simply have to watch to believe. But herein lies the appeal, as director Bruno Dumont tests the waters - quite literally, with panoramas of the English Channel throughout the movie - to spin a charming tale brought to life by period costumes and exaggerated gags.

Demain tout commence / Two is a Family

Hugo Gélin, 2016
Reserve it!

Any film starring Omar Sy is likely to be a good one, and certainly one that I would recommend for cinéphiles who are just starting out with Francophone film. This movie is actually a French remake of the 2013 film, Instructions Not Included - an interesting twist in cinema news, as another favorite Omar Sy movie, Les Intouchables, was just recently remade for American audiences!

La fille de Brest / 150 Milligrams

Emmanuelle Bercot, 2016
Reserve it!

A drama based on a true story, La fille de Brest was nominated for two César awards. Watch the trailer below to learn more about the film deemed "The French Erin Brockovitch" in The Hollywood Reporter.

Voir du pays / The Stopover

Delphine Coulin, Muriel Coulin, 2016
Reserve it!

The latest film from the directors of 17 filles tackles the reintegration of female French soldiers returning home from fighting in the Middle East. This movie was adapted from the book of the same name from Delphine Coulin (Grasset, 2013), also available in our collections.

Dalida

Lisa Azuelos, 2016
Reserve it!

Get a two-hour glimpse into the life of beloved singer, Dalida, in this new biographical drama by director Lisa Azuelos. Can't get her songs out of your head after watching the movie? We have a number of her CDs, including a recording of a live concert, in our collections.

Pour les enfants...

Ballerina / Leap!

Eric Summer, Éric Warin, 2015
Reserve it!

A charming tale for aspiring ballerinas, creative thinkers, and fans of Paris. This movie, released initially in France, was remade and dubbed for American audiences. This DVD contains both versions; if you're looking to practice your listening comprehension, try watching the French version first!

À la télé...

Le bureau des légendes / The Bureau

Éric Rochant, 2016-2017, Seasons 1-3
Reserve it!

I'll admit: I wasn't entirely convinced about yet another spy show on TV, but after watching one episode, I was hooked. Matthieu Kassovitz plays an endearing, complicated spy entangled in international affairs, accompanied by an excellent cast and a captivating plot line with cliffhangers that will leave you anxiously clicking play to start the next episode. Lucky for you, you don't have to wait for all three seasons to come out on DVD (as I am not-so-patiently waiting for season 4!), though this series is in high demand at our Library.

Et en plus...

Did you know? Our Library now has two DVD players that can be checked out for two weeks! These USB-powered, region 1 devices can connect to any computer or TV to allow you to enjoy our film collections at home or on the go. Questions? Ask for help - or for movie recommendations - at the Circulation Desk.
