About Sophie Deraspe
Sophie Deraspe is an acclaimed Canadian filmmaker known for her distinctive, reality-based storytelling. She made her directorial debut with Rechercher Victor Pellerin (2006) and gained international recognition with Les Signes Vitaux(2009), which won over 15 awards worldwide. Her 2019 adaptation of Antigone was a major success, winning Best Motion Picture at the Canadian Screen Awards and representing Canada at the Oscars. She has also directed acclaimed TV series, including Bête noire (2021) and Motel Paradis (2022). Her latest feature film, Bergers (Shepherds), continues her exploration of deeply human narratives and will be followed by her upcoming series Ravages (2025).

Part 3 of our Before and After series looks to the future of Notre-Dame’s surroundings. In 2022, the City of Paris chose Bas Smets and his team to redesign the public spaces around the cathedral. He will present plans for the forecourt, underground areas, the Jean XXIII garden, and the riverbanks—an ambitious project designed to create a cooler microclimate.
