About this Class

Vincent Van Gogh was Dutch, but France became his home. He loved the French language—which he spoke fluently—as much as he loved the landscapes and the people who inspired him.
Take a fresh look at the landscapes of France, its sunlight, and its people as seen through his eyes and immortalized by his brush, from Paris to Provence. Discover the letters he wrote in French to his brother, his sister, and his fellow artists, which reveal his experience as an artist in the country that became his adopted homeland.

Learn how to observe and discuss a painting in French:
- Learn to situate Van Gogh within the context of French Post-Impressionism and gain a deeper understanding of his artistic influences and legacy.
- Expand your vocabulary and expressions for analyzing and appreciating art while strengthening your grammatical skills in the relaxed atmosphere of a summer evening art talk.
