Behind the Curtain : Le Porteur d'Histoire

For lovers of theater and the French language, join us at the French Library for a special preview of Le Porteur d’Histoire, Alexis Michalik’s award-winning play, ahead of its Boston performances.

Members of the visiting company will join us to share how they bring Michalik’s fast-moving story to life. With five performers shifting among a multitude of characters, the play travels across centuries and continents using only a few stools, racks of costumes, and the audience’s imagination. We’ll hear how the actors move between roles and keep the many threads of the story unfolding onstage.

David Miller, founder of the French Theater Project, will moderate the conversation. This Behind the Curtain event offers a chance to meet the artists, hear about their creative process, and ask questions before seeing the production.

The conversation will take place in French and will be followed by a Q&A and a glass of wine.


ABOUT THE SHOW – Le Porteur d’Histoire by Alexis Michalik 

On a rainy night in the Ardennes, Martin Martin discovers a handwritten notebook while burying his father. Its contents draw him into a quest across history and continents. Fifteen years later, a mother and daughter vanish in the Algerian desert, drawn into a stranger’s tale of mysterious books, a secret society, and a hidden treasure.

Moving between stories and eras at a breathless pace, Le Porteur d’Histoire celebrates the power of storytelling. The play won two Molière Awards in 2014 , for best author and best direction.
