Patriots, Prayers and Politics with a French Flavor

Boston, often called “the capital of New England,” is replete with locations and landmarks that reflect hundreds of years of French influence on the city’s history and culture.

This 90-minute walk will begin at the Massachusetts State House on Beacon Street and end at the Old Colonial State House at the head of State Street. Along the way, we will visit a dozen sites that honor people who link Boston, directly or indirectly, with French-influenced military, religious, and political movements since the founding of the Massachusetts Colony in 1630.

Stops will include the 53rd Regiment Monument, the Lafayette Memorial, the graves of Paul Revere and Pierre Faneuil, the Monument to the Chevalier de Saint-Saveur, the former site of the Huguenot Church, the birthplace of Benjamin Franklin, and other locations.

Please arrive at the entrance of the Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon Street, by 10:20 AM so the tour can begin at 10:30 AM sharp.

We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a water bottle. Dress appropriately; the walk will be entirely outdoors. The talk will be given in French.

The tour will conclude at Faneuil Hall. You are welcome to join us afterward at Tatte Bakery at One Boston Place for coffee, depending on room availability.
