Theater Club in September

Come join us for the new Theater Club at the French Library, a place to read, watch, discuss and recite contemporary and classic French plays with fellow enthusiasts! At the Theater Club, we'll discuss a different play each month and read excerpts aloud to each other. 

This club strives to foster discussion and dialogue around a love of contemporary theater and a chosen play: attendees are wholeheartedly encouraged to come and practice speaking in French. No acting skill required, and no public performances are planned!

Our fourth meeting features the 2023 play "Rentrée 42: Bienvenue les enfants" by Pierre-Olivier Scotto and Xavier Lemaire. The play takes place in 1942 at Victor Hugo Elementary School for Girls in the 11th arrondissement of Paris where teachers gather after their summer break to prepare the school for re-opening. Only 14 of the 123 enrolled students appear. Why ? What has happened ? What will they do ? This new play direct from Festival Off Avignon is both hard-hitting and moving, a work of theater that links the past with our present.
