About this Exhibition
The Naked Eyes Collection is a series of paintings by Haitian artist Gregory Fritz-Laplanche. His work is a window into the true essence of human nature- unmasked, unabridged, exposed. From a young age, he has used his art to manifest his everlasting curiosity and fascination with our diverse and elusive world. His concentration on eyes reflects his philosophy that we exist as fluid and limitless creatures. This collection is a revival of his childhood, it serves as a testament to our freedom and our liberation to experience life to the fullest.A Word from the Artist
"I dedicate this exhibit to the artistic geniuses from which I developed my style of interpretation.To Cesare Pavese for his book La mort viendra et elle aura tes yeux. His words sparked my awareness of emotional sincerity in a person’s eyes.
To Vincent van Gogh, for the portraits from which I developed my interpretation of emotional and visual monologue.
To Bernini, for the sculptures that demonstrated an artist’s unlimited capacity to model our reality.
To Oscar Niemeyer, for the most mundane sensibility to movement.
To Pierre Chareau for his architectural project La Maison de verre, for the dream within the dream that defines the fluidity of our being.
To Beethoven for his Symphony N°4, its peacefulness and the art in the musical composition that transcends the barriers of language.
Through the Naked Eyes Collection, I hope to rekindle our collective childhood and remind the audience’s of our indefinite potential in this life. Please enjoy the artwork and bring the children, as they do see the world in a pure fashion."
About the Artist
Born in Haiti, Port-au-Prince in 1973, Gregory-Fritz Laplanche moved to Boston to study fine arts at Mass College of Art, Design at Pratt Institute, Architecture at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Floral Design at the Rittner School, Gastronomy at NSCC and wishes to pursue a doctorate in urban design to help out Haiti and other parts of the world where design skills are needed. Laplanche feels it is important, as a creative person, to experience the world, find beauty within the essential: culture, languages, scenery where form and shape take on a new meaning. His curiosity has taken him to countries like: Argentina, Norway, Turkey, Iceland, Switzerland, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, The Netherlands, The UK, France, Spain, Italy, Haiti, Canada, Greece and Germany.Gallery Hours
