French Lit Book Club - Marguerite Duras

The French Lit Book Club is an English-language book club hosted at the French Library. We read and discuss Francophone works in translation so English speakers can discover the rich world of Francophone literature. 

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 13 from 6:00PM to 7:30PM.

We will be discussing Marguerite Duras’s 1984 Prix Goncourt-winning novel The Lover, a haunting tale of a tumultuous affair between an adolescent French girl and her Chinese lover, set in the prewar Indochina of Duras’s childhood. Marguerite Duras was a French novelist, playwright, screenwriter, essayist, and experimental filmmaker, most famous in the U.S. for writing Hiroshima mon amour (1959).

Please read the book in its entirety and come ready to discuss with an open heart! The book club is a space for readers of all backgrounds. Previous familiarity with French literature or French language is not required. The discussion will be in English.
