Ensemble Chamarré performs Messiaen’s "Quatuor pour la fin du temps"

You are invited to a unique musical evening on Friday, September 13th at 6:00 PM with Ensemble Chamarré, as they perform Olivier Messiaen’s “Quatuor pour la fin du temps” ("Quartet for the End of Time").

Composed under the extraordinary conditions of a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II, this piece is considered one of the most powerful works in the chamber music repertoire. Olivier Messiaen, who was captured and held in Stalag VIII-A, used a clarinet, violin, cello, and piano to craft this eight-movement masterpiece. Inspired by the New Testament’s Book of Revelation, the songs of birds, and the mystical colors of the northern lights, Quartet for the End of Time was first performed in 1941 by Messiaen and his fellow prisoners. Over the years, it has only grown in significance, continuing to resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.
