About this Event

After a sold out lecture on her Markets of Paris in 2012, Marjorie R. Williams is back to give us an exclusive preview of her new book Markets of Provence that will be officially released on May 3rd.

Provence, France, is justly famous for its dazzling light, vibrant colors, rich history and flavorful foods and wines. And its markets have been the beating heart of Provençal life since the Middle Ages. Marjorie R. Williams who has visited them all will share her enthusiasm for this region and whisk you away to 30 of the best markets of the south of France.

The talk will be followed by a book sale, book signing and an informal reception. Special thanks to the Cultural Services of the Consulate General of France for generously providing the wine.

About the Book

The book includes city markets such as Arles, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, but also gives considerable emphasis to village markets, such as in Lourmarin, Cucuron, Bédoin, Eygalières, and Sault. The L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue market is well known among flea and antiques collectors, and Marjorie visited it several times, but also made it her business to find others. And she did—antiques markets that are off the beaten track and well worth a visit!

Included in this pocket guide are indispensable advice on timing, navigation, negotiation and payment; tips on etiquette while surveying vendors' produce; and even some language lessons to help you brush up on your essential français. Complete with restaurant recommendations and other useful tips, this book will help you get the most out of the experience. Supplemented with beautiful full-color photographs and color-coded maps, Markets of Provence is a must-have for every traveler.
