L'Iconographie Française: Lully Schwartz

About this Exhibition

A culmination of the artist's experience in Paris, L'Iconographie Française: Lully Schwartz explores symbolic imagery and the impact that Parisian icons continue to have on contemporary culture. In the fall of 2014, Lully Schwartz traveled to France seeking to study works by Suzanne Valadon, Edouard Manet and the contemporary art movement in Paris.  In addition to her artistic pilgrimage, she visited Paris’ monumental sights. Her senses responded with overwhelming emotions to French iconography– the physicality of the Eiffel Tower, the reflections of confectioneries bouncing off the light of chandeliers in a pastry shop around La Madeleine district, a ballet costume suspended for display in the Galeries Lafayette windows by the Opera House. This experience had a profound impact on the work of Lully Schwartz. Back in her studio, she worked from her recollections, sketches and a few snapshots she had taken to express the sensations she had felt and the memories she had on paper and canvas. This began the process for the paintings and drawings presented in this exhibition.

About Lully Schwartz

American artist Lully Schwartz is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and Mount Ida College in Newton. Her paintings, drawings and original prints are nationally recognized, collected and awarded. Among notable awards are the Armory Art Show Award for painting, her induction into the National Association of Women Artists, Inc. (N.A.W.A.) headquartered in New York City. Lully has served as Vice President for N.A.W.A., Inc. (Massachusetts Chapter) and was awarded juried membership into the prestigious Rockport Art Association. In addition Lully founded the North Shore Atelier.
