L'émergence des femmes dans la région Sud-Est de la France a joué un rôle essentiel dans la transformation de cette zone en ce qui allait devenir la Côte d'Azur française, en apportant des innovations dans la mode, les arts, les affaires et le sport.

Des figures emblématiques telles qu'Alexandra Feodorovna et la reine Victoria ont contribué à populariser la région auprès de l'aristocratie russe et britannique, stimulant ainsi l'économie locale par l'achat de propriétés et le développement de nouveaux quartiers.

La Belle Époque a vu la Côte d'Azur se développer en une destination internationale animée, attirant des personnalités de divers horizons, notamment des intellectuels, des artistes et des sportifs.

Des personnalités comme Coco Chanel ont laissé leur empreinte sur la scène culturelle, tandis que les Années folles ont été marquées par l'influence sociale des expatriés américains tels que Sarah Murphy et les Fitzgerald, contribuant ainsi à façonner la vie sociale dynamique de la Côte d'Azur.

About Madeleine Deschamps

Madeleine Deschamps is an art historian specializing in the Decorative Arts and in Art Crafts, Métiers d’art, and an interior designer with specialties in high-end residences and hospitality. She has a doctorate in art history from the Sorbonne and has taught at the Sorbonne, the Ecole du Louvre, in the Master's Programs of the Smithsonian Institution and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, at New York University, the Bard Graduate Center, Parsons School of Design, and in a number of American university programs.

She has written and contributed to books on the Decorative Arts and on American art, both in France and in the United States. She published La Peinture américaine, les Mythes et la Matière and contributed to L'Art de Vivre: Decorative Arts in France, 1789-1989. She is also the author of Empire which was awarded the Grand Prix de la Fondation Napoléon.
