Flâner on Commonwealth Avenue, the Boston French Boulevard

Calling all Boulevard flâneurs and flâneuses! Join us for a 1.5 mile stroll on Commonwealth Avenue to appreciate the art and the architecture along the Mall. We will learn more about the Victorian Andrew Mansion that has a balcony from the Tuileries, the luxury Vendôme hotel, the Harvard club-house or the “Quin House'' that is described as "the finest and most perfectly appointed club-house in America”. We will start our walk at the Kenmore Square T station and will end at the French Library on 53 Marlborough Street. Our guide, Boston University faculty member Liliane Duséwoir, will also share some observations about the sculptures present along the stroll. We will end the tour with a glass of wine at the newly reopened Center.

Please be at the Kenmore Square T station at 5:50 PM so the tour can begin at 6:00 PM sharp. Please note that this tour is not a loop. The walk will end at the French Library on 53 Marlborough Street.

About Your Guide, Liliane Duséwoir

After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation & Interpretation in Belgium, Liliane specialized in the field of Linguistics and pursued her graduate studies as a Fulbright scholar at Boston University in the late 90s. In the U.S., Liliane has taught at Brown University and at the College of the Holy Cross. She joined Boston University’s department of Romance Studies in 2006 and is an award-winning Faculty-in-Residence. She also serves on the board of Directors of the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association. Liliane is passionate about Boston’s history and heritage and regularly leads guided walks for BU students.
