Catherine Cusset is an acclaimed novelist and bestselling author of 15 novels, including Le problème avec Jane (Grand Prix des lectrices d’Elle, 2000); Un brillant avenir (Prix Goncourt des Lycéens, 2008); L’autre qu’on adorait (finalist for the Prix Goncourt, 2016); Vie de David Hockney (Prix Anaïs Nin, 2018); and La définition du bonheur. Her work has been translated into over 20 languages and is known for its elegant blend of French and American literary sensibilities.

Her most recent book, Ma vie avec Marcel Proust (My Life with Marcel Proust), published this year, received both the Prix Léo Scheer and the Prix Céleste Albaret. Vie de David Hockney was also released this year in a new illustrated edition featuring 50 artworks by the British painter.

Cusset taught French literature at Yale University for over a decade and has lived in New York for nearly 30 years. Her writing draws on both personal experience and literary tradition, exploring themes of love, memory, art, and identity with precision and nuance.



Stéphanie Ravillon is Associate Teaching Professor of French and Francophone Studies at Brown University. She graduated from the University of Burgundy, France, with a Ph.D. in Postcolonial Studies. Her current teaching and research interests include: contemporary French language, culture and society; second language acquisition; curriculum design; teacher training; and translation pedagogy.
