About David Lebovitz

David began his pastry career in San Francisco working in the pastry department at the world-famous Chez Panisse restaurant for thirteen years beginning in 1983. He was named one of the top five pastry chefs in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Chronicle. His first cookbook Room for Dessert (HarperCollins 1999) was nominated for an IACP/ KitchenAid Award. His ice cream book, The Perfect Scoop (Ten Speed Press) was chosen as one of Amazon’s Top Ten Cookbooks of 2007. Considered the definitive book on frozen desserts, David published a revised and updated edition of the bestseller The Perfect Scoop in 2018.  Both Williams-Sonoma and Cuisinart purchased copies to feature in their stores and promote to their customers.

David Lebovitz has been featured in Bon Appétit, Food & Wine magazine, Gourmet, Cook’s Illustrated, Saveur, Travel and Leisure, Milk Street, Better Homes and Gardens, the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, People magazine, Financial Times, the Washington Post, The Guardian, L’Express, Le Monde and other publications around the world.

His blog www.davidlebovitz.com is one of the first and most phenomenally popular blogs with over a million pageviews per month. His blog was named “Blog of the decade” by Saveur magazine.

His two memoirs, The Sweet Life in Paris: Delicious Adventures in the World’s Most Glorious – and Perplexing – City (Crown 2009) was a New York Times bestseller. The sequel L’Appart: The Delights and Disasters of Making My Paris Home (Crown 2017) was praised by the Washington Post as “equal parts honest, intriguing, distressing, entertaining, funny and appetizing.”  Both books have been optioned for a television series and are currently in development with David as the main character.

His recent cookbooks My Paris Kitchen: Recipes and Stories (Ten Speed Press 2014) and Drinking French (Ten Speed Press 2020) have become bestsellers and praised by everyone from Ina Garten to Yotam Ottolenghi.
