About this Class
Explore the world of modern art while improving your French language skills. Through paintings, sculptures, photographs, historical documents, and interactive discussions, participants will discover major artistic movements of the 20th century and learn how to describe, analyze, and discuss artworks in French.
Inspired by the new Modern Art Galleries at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, this course explores artists such as Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Alberto Giacometti, Mark Rothko, and others. Through vocabulary-building activities, conversations, and guided explorations of artworks, participants will develop their ability to express ideas, emotions, and opinions in French while discovering the creativity and cultural transformations that shaped modern art.
One class will take place at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where participants will put their language skills into practice through a guided exploration of selected works from the new Modern Art Galleries.
Course objectives:
- Describe and discuss works of art using appropriate French vocabulary.
- Express personal opinions and interpretations about artistic choices.
- Identify major modern art movements and their characteristics.
- Improve fluency through conversations about culture and visual experiences.
- Understand how artists used color, form, and abstraction to communicate ideas and emotions.
