About this Class

"PEINDRE L'AUTOMNE": French Painting in Fall Colors, from Impressionism to Modern Art.

Step into the golden light of autumn and explore French through art. Peindre l’automne is a B1–B2 level course that takes you on a seasonal journey through the French countryside—from the forests of Île-de-France to the rustic landscapes of Brittany—guided by the brushstrokes of French masters.
We’ll explore how major French art movements — the Impressionists, Pont-Aven School, Barbizon School, and the Nabis — captured the essence of autumn in their landscapes. The course also highlights the classical tradition of autumn still life, from Chardin’s quiet elegance to Cézanne’s vibrant apples.

In this course, you will:
- Learn to observe, interpret, and discuss artworks in French with precision and sensitivity
- Build your vocabulary and grammar through rich, visual contexts
- Identify the styles, techniques, and themes of key French art movements

Featured painting: Gauguin, l'automne à Pont-Aven.
