Theater Club in September

Come join us for the Theater Club at the French Library, a place to read, watch, discuss and recite contemporary and classic French plays with fellow enthusiasts! At the Theater Club, we'll discuss a different play each month and read excerpts aloud to each other. 

This club strives to foster discussion and dialogue around a love of contemporary theater and a chosen play: attendees are wholeheartedly encouraged to come and practice speaking in French. No acting skill required, and no public performances are planned!

Our September meeting features the 1999 play Hôtel des deux mondes by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt.



No guest knows how they arrived at the Hôtel des deux mondes. No one knows when they will be able to leave, or where they will go next. In this strange place, anything is possible, even miracles. The infirm regain the use of their limbs, and liars tell the truth. The enigmatic Doctor S., who is responsible for guiding their stay, only intensifies the questions of his guests. A metaphysical suspense between dream and reality, life and death, comedy and tragedy, where the author of Visiteur continues his desperate search for meaning and presents mystery as the very reason for hope.

Club participants are asked to read the play beforehand and bring their copy to the meeting for discussion and recitation.
