Times are difficult, but the French Library is unswerving in its mission of fostering international and cultural understanding. We are sticking by you and by our dynamic community.
Immediately at the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis, the Center moved lessons and cultural events online so that students and members would remain safe – and still have a place to meet, learn and share their love of French and French culture.
The Center’s library staff quickly launched a curbside pickup program so children and adults would have continued access to French books, CDs and other material.
We stuck by our commitment to the Center’s Accent on Success program, which provides free French language lessons to high school students in Boston’s underserved neighborhoods.
And, over the summer, when health authorities said it was safe to meet in small groups, we began offering outdoor French-themed tours of Boston, plus wine tastings and gastronomy events, to bring members and friends together again in person. (We are all “Zoomed out!”)
Yet, I must tell you that it has been a difficult year financially for the Center. The pandemic forced us to cancel three major fundraising activities – with a predictable impact on our budget.
As a result, we need your financial support more than ever to sustain the Center’s activities and our exceptional staff during this period of financial stress.
I believe so strongly in the work of the French Library that I and my wife Leanne will match, dollar for dollar, all gifts received up to a total of $25,000 from now until December 1, 2020 – doubling your impact!
Making a gift to the French Library is a statement that you believe in the power of language and culture to make connections, create community and inspire global understanding. By sticking together –by donating together – we can demonstrate our deeply shared belief.
Thank you in advance for your support. Leanne and I look forward to being your partner in generosity. Stay well. Stay upbeat! The new year, with a vaccine, will be brighter. Meanwhile, I and the Center’s staff members offer you and your loved ones our very best wishes for the holiday season.
Bien à vous,
Steven Galante
