About Festinema Junior:Festinema is an annual nationwide French film festival and educational program for children and adolescents, created by the Alliance Française network in the U.S. Initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S. and the FACE Foundation, and now in its 9th year, this complimentary event is an opportunity to inspire learning and understanding of international cultures through cinema.
Students of all ages and socioeconomic status are invited to expand their international horizons through cinema and culture. The Festinema Junior program has four goals across the United States:
- Introduce young audiences to world cinema and international cultures.
- Integrate film as a teaching tool in the classroom.
- Offer children of all backgrounds, status, and origins an opportunity to see a foreign language film in a theater.
- Teach young people to think critically in their film analysis.
Attention Teachers of French! Due to the pandemic, Festinema will take place entirely in your school this year. Movies must be shown during the month of April. If you are interested in participating, please complete the form on this link which contains further information about the films/series. We will send you links to the digital versions of the films based on your selection. In addition to organizing the screenings in collaboration with your colleagues and/or administrators at your school, our Education Department may help guide you in with pedagogical or logistical questions over the next few weeks. We will require each school to communicate screening dates and keep a tally of the number of students present at each screening in order to report them to the Alliance Française network.
Here are the movies for the 2022 edition:
"Athleticus" de Nicolas Devaux (ages 4-6)
"Calamity" de Rémi Chayé (ages 7-12)
"Fahim" de Pierre-François Martin Laval (ages 13-15)
"Culottées" Mai Nguyen et Charlotte Cambon (ages 16-18)
