Summer in French Themes
Week 1: Une semaine au musée du Louvre / A week in the Louvre MuseumWhether it’s the original Louvre or the Louvre Abu Dhabi, these museum collections are an endless source of inspiration. Through the discovery of unique artists and their masterpieces, children will create projects using many types of media and have their own vernissage at the end of the week for parents to admire. Great for visual learners, art is an excellent medium for conveying language and this week is sure to bring out each child’s creativity and passion.
Week 2: Les Dinosaurs / Dinosaurs
As budding paleontologists children will explore the origins of dinosaurs, the different species, their diets, and their characteristics during a week that is sure to get them excited for the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods.
Week 3: A la découverte de Jules Verne ! / All about Jules Verne!
You can’t change the world until you’ve seen it! Jules Verne might be an exception to the rule so this week children will embark on a journey across the globe through his novels to discover faraway places.
Week 4: La symphonie des 5 sens / Symphony of the 5 Senses
This exploration will focus on self-awareness and how we relate physically to the world around us. Perfect for kinesthetic learners, this theme will allow children to associate different movements, smells, light, sounds and flavors to new words.
Week 5: On va à Paris / Let’s go to Paris
The magical qualities of Paris continue to inspire through its culture, people, architecture, and je ne sais quoi. Children will discover the vibrant neighborhoods, landmarks, and history of this remarkable city through its streets, music, and art.
Week 6: Comptoir du goût / Tasting Counter
Every Michelin star chef needs to start somewhere! This week, kids will discover the ingredients that go into creating delicious meals while having fun and being creative with the presentation of each succulent dish. Their work will go into preparing for the discerning palettes of...their parents!
Week 7: La Mode / Fashion Week
Kids will use colors, textures, and textile prints to stylize their favorite outfits while learning vocabulary of clothing and words unique to fashion. Through techniques inspired by French fashion designers, older kids will stylize a photo shoot and create their own line of clothing and accessories.
Week 8: Théâtre / Theater
Calling all young actors! Theater encompasses a wide range of skills from embodying a character to interpretive movement and is an excellent medium through which to learn a language. Kids will move, shout and scream their way through imaginary spaces – what better to way to make a word stick in their head than to act it out!
Week 9: Mon monde, ma planète / My World, My Planet
Learning to take care of our planet starts with discovering the world beyond what we see and experience. Kids will learn about different types of plant and animal environments and the characteristics that make their biodiversity unique. From the Versailles gardens to the boreal forests of Québec and the jungles of Madagascar, these worlds apart all need our nurturing and protection.
Week 10: Pâtisserie / Pastry
From galettes to financiers, kids will enjoy discovering and making regional French pâtisseries recipes that are sure to make their mouths water! A hands-on approach to learning and interacting in French, they will learn valuable team-work skills in the kitchen and compile yummy recipe books!
Week 11: L’atelier des inventeurs / Inventors’ workshop Kids let their imagination run loose this week when they invent the craziest of machines and create a future where anything is possible. Drawing from traditional French pioneers such as Les Frères Lumières and legendary Citroën engineering, children will invent machines using recycled materials to make our world a better place.
