About this Exhibition

De la musique jusqu’au silence (From music to mutism) by Samuel Luxama is an homage to the elders of the Francophone music scene from the 70s. The series of three-dimensional mixed media works reflects on the power of lyrics and rhythms that remain despite the disappearance of the great musicians who created them. It engages with the subjects of music, language, and the expression of the soul, with the idea that every spoken word is a symphony.

For this collection of works, Luxama used a variety of materials (clay, wood, iron, paper, copper) and processes and arranged familiar visual elements into new conceptually layered pieces.

About Samuel Luxama

Samuel Luxama was born in Haïti. At a very young age, he developed a passion for drawing. As he grew older, he developed ideas for painting, sculpturing, assemblage, body painting, jewelry making, and decoration, and became particularly interested in mixing different media together. The originality of Luxama’s work primarily comes from his singular use of the color “black” in his three-dimensional assemblage and mixed media works.

Samuel has participated in many group exhibitions and solo shows in Haïti, Dominican Republic, and the United States. His last solo exhibit was presented in Malden, MA in April 2015.
