Though written over three hundred years ago, Molière's masterpieces still excite us to this very day. Times have changed, but people and morals are strikingly similar to those of Moliere’s times. Join us to discover on paper and on film, Molière’s genius. Class is led by Farida.
Molière, a figure often compared to Shakespeare, similarly left his mark on the very language he used so splendidly in his craft… so much so, that French is colloquially referred to as la langue de Molière. Molière’s genius has been celebrated in multiple film adaptations, most notably in works such as L'avare (The Miser) and Dom Juan (Don Juan), scenes from which will be discussed in this class. This discussion will be accompanied by an analysis of excerpts from the original plays.
Communicative and Linguistic objectives:
Analyze literature (introduction)
Read longer excerpts of 3-5 of Molière’s plays
Watch quality movie adaptations
Discuss and compare the works in both medias (written plays/movie adaptations)
