Molière, a figure often compared to Shakespeare, similarly left his mark on the very language he used so splendidly in his craft… so much so, that French is colloquially referred to as la langue de Molière. Molière’s genius has been celebrated in multiple film adaptations, most notably in works such as L'avare (The Miser) and Dom Juan (Don Juan), scenes from which will be discussed in this class. This discussion will be accompanied by an analysis of excerpts from the original plays.
