About this Class

Our core language classes will strengthen your French through speaking, writing and comprehension activities while providing insights into Francophone culture. Our teachers and curriculum use cutting-edge methods and resources to expand your skills and increase your confidence in French. With full immersion from day one and a communicative, task-based approach you'll gain a deeper understanding of the French language and Francophone world!

Required: B1-1 or equivalent. Prepare for CECR B1

In this course you will cover units 3, 4 and 5; pp. 41 to 84.



Content you will cover: Unité 3: « Cultivons les arts »

Learn How To
Explain and motivate one’s choices; give and ask for advice; express one’s opinion; tell a movie’s plot; talk about a work of art.

Grammar
Conditionnel présent : conjugation and use; using ne…que for restriction; how to use linking words to express cause and consequence.

Society, Culture, and Vocabulary
Pop culture; the festival of la francophonie; female rap singers. Vocabulary: Performative arts; music; visual arts, theater, and cinema.

Pronunciation
When to pronounce final consonants.




Content you will cover: Unit 4: “La francophonie jusque dans l’assiette”

Learn How To
Rephrase a statement to elaborate; present a country, a city, and its inhabitants; express a wish or one’s will.

Grammar
Indefinite pronouns and adjectives; the indicative and the subjunctive to express one’s will and wishes; negative phrases and adverbs.

Society, Culture, and Vocabulary
Starting a new life in New Caledonia; French words in other languages; food festival in Martinique; food in Senegal; delicious cheap food in Québec. Vocabulary: Language; the Francophone world; adjusting to life abroad; food and types of cuisine.

Pronunciation
L’enchaînement vocalique (linking vowels seamlessly).

Learn How To
Describe an activity; report miscellaneous news; complain about something.

Grammar
The passive voice; adjective placement; adjective nominalization.

Society, Culture, and Vocabulary
Paris and Parisian monuments; poetry about city life; gentrification in Montréal. Vocabulary: City life and neighborhoods.
