The French Library seeks to hire a Development Associate to execute and/or assist on a variety of administrative tasks and events in the Development department.Founded in 1945, the French Library of Boston, is a 501(c)3, membership-based organization housed in a beautiful French Revival townhouse in Boston’s historic Back Bay. The French Library has three areas of activity: French language education for students of all ages, from children to adults, based on close affiliation with the internationally renowned Federation of Alliances Françaises; French-themed artistic and cultural activities throughout the year, including the annual Bastille Day Celebration block party; and a library/médiathèque that houses some 32,000 French-language books, periodicals and electronic media, making it the largest private collection in the U.S.
The Development Associate will be joining the French Library at a very exciting time as we have just renovated our brownstone building and rebranded.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Development Associate is responsible for:- Maintaining correspondence with individuals/foundations/corporate donors, including gift acknowledgement letters and foundation reports;
- Maintaining donors database;
- Under the supervision of the Executive Director, planning fundraising events, donor appreciation events, and other VIP receptions;
- Planning donor appeal campaigns as well as donor recognition efforts, including the Annual Report project;
- Informing trustees and committee members of upcoming meetings (board meetings held quarterly); tracking planned attendance at the meetings; setting up for and breaking down from the meetings;
- Order and setting up food and/or beverages for meetings as appropriate; taking minutes of meetings as requested; distributing minutes and other documents to meeting attendees as requested;
- Organizing yearly Executive Director’s holiday party.
- Assisting with marketing efforts to increase membership;
- Assisting Cultural Manager on some events.
REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency or advanced proficiency in French
- Native level fluency in English
- At least 3 years experience as a Development Assistant or Associate required
- Superior attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to write clearly, concisely and with conviction
- Polite and persuasive oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional presence
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Advanced user of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with database systems required
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent 3-year experience minimum required in development or nonprofit administration
- Experience with event planning desired
- Experience in a multicultural environment desired
Schedule
Monday to Friday (9 AM – 5 PM)Must be able to work occasional evenings for events and committee meetings.
