DESCRIPTION

The French Library is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cultural Programs Manager to join our team. As the Programs Manager, you will play a pivotal role in designing, coordinating, and implementing a diverse range of cultural activities and events that promote French language, arts , and culture within the community. Activities and events will be created for the various segments of our public: individuals, families, members, and donors. You will work closely with the President & Executive Director, and collaborate with various stakeholders to create a vibrant and engaging cultural program that aligns with the mission of the French Library, and its vision for growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program development
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive cultural program, including gastronomy & wine programs; exhibitions, performances, workshops, lectures, film screenings, and other events that promote French language and French and francophone cultures.
  • Identify emerging trends and innovative ideas to enhance the program offerings, attract a diverse audience, and grow membership and donor base.
  • Collaborate with local artists, performers, organizations, and institutions to create partnerships.
  • Each spring, in collaboration with the ED and other team members, create an integrated calendar for the September-May period that balances events and activities for the various segments of our community.
Event coordination
  • Oversee all aspects of event planning and execution, including budgeting, logistics, vendor coordination, and participant management.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and volunteers to ensure smooth operation and successful implementation of events.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts within the cultural community, local and national Francophone cultural institutions and universities to facilitate collaborations and maximize participation.
Marketing and promotion
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop effective strategies for promoting cultural events to target audiences, including digital and traditional marketing channels.
  • Create engaging content for promotional materials, website, social media, and other platforms to raise awareness and generate interest in all French Library programs.
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, adjusting strategies as needed to optimize reach and engagement.
  Budget management
  • Develop and manage the cultural program budget, ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
  • Identify potential funding, opportunities, grants, and sponsorships to support cultural initiatives and secure additional resources.
  • Monitor expenses, track financial records, and provide regular reports on the budget status to the Executive Director.
  Team leadership
      • Lead and supervisor a team of cultural program staff, interns, and volunteers, providing guidance, support, and feedback.
      • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development opportunities.
      • Supervise and coordinate the work of outsourced events planners for specific projects (Bastille Day, gala fundraiser, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Cultural Studies, Event Management, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years experience in cultural program management and event planning, preferably within a language or cultural institute setting.
  • Deep knowledge and appreciation of French language, gastronomy, arts, history, and culture. Understanding the functioning of cultural institutions in both countries is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledgeable of digital marketing tools and platforms, social media management, and content creation.
  • Budgeting and financial management experience.

COMPENSATION

Full-time. Base salary $60,000/year. Benefits: health and dental coverage, 403(b) retirement plan, term life insurance, paid vacation and sick days, observance of Massachusetts holidays, enrollment in courses offered by the French Library, French Library membership, professional development program. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
