Dear friends,

The events of the past few days and demonstrations that are now being replicated worldwide touch us all.

Let’s remember that it was during the 1789 French Revolution, and inspired by the philosophy of the enlightenment and the 1776 United States Declaration of Independence, that the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was voted in France.

Today more than ever, the French Library asserts its commitment to its mission. We strive to inspire our diverse community of children, teens, and adults to explore, understand, and embrace today’s interconnected world. Our organizational values include respect, openness and inclusivity. We condemn racism and every form of discrimination and inequality.

Our staff members come from various cultural backgrounds, which makes us stronger. We believe in, and are committed to, fair and equitable treatment for every employee, and to creating a safe and respectful workforce.

We pledge our continued commitment to providing a safe space for all communities to gather, learn and share their voices.

As adults, we can do our part and express ourselves. It is also our responsibility to educate our children on these crucial issues. We encourage you to peruse our collection of books on diversity, to be found here.

Bien à vous,
Barbara Bouquegneau
Executive Director
