Each year, the French Library raises funds through generous individual gifts and proceeds from our annual Tour de France Viticole Wine Dinner to support our Accent on Success program. This community outreach program provides free French language instruction to local public school students following the same curricula and academic rigor for which the Alliance Française is known!

"Our Access on Success students are committed to their foreign language study and understand its importance personally, academically, and professionally."

AOS Accent on Success students

Recently, I had the opportunity to join the students during their weekly class. They comprise 11 high school students from Boston Latin Academy, Boston Latin School, and Cathedral High School. Our students include Gloria, who wants to attend McGill University in Montréal; Devin and Elidja, who are participating so they can communicate with Francophone relatives; Yorleny, who is looking forward to studying in Paris; Indy, who is a student of romance languages; Yailin, for whom French is a third language; and Nia, who is excited by French culture.

These students are committed to their foreign language study and understand its importance personally, academically, and professionally. Thanks to Accent on Success, they will also be eligible to continue their French language education through our Summer in French program. There they will participate in intensive, full-immersion classes in the mornings, while deepening their appreciation of the French culture in the afternoons. For example, past students got a glimpse into the many facets of French and Francophone culture through meeting local French professionals like chefs (who provided a taste of French cuisine), architects, photographers, musicians, and dancers.

This cohort of students will continue their classes into next year when they will have the opportunity to take the DELF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française) exam. This official diploma, which is valid for life, allows one to study or work in France. Finally, at the end of two years of study, students will be eligible to experience an immersion trip to Québec or Paris.

Please join me in applauding these students and our generous donors for making this program possible. Merci à tous !
